Some people are more prone to Ingrown toenails based on the way that their nail grows. Measures to prevent them recurring are to keep the nails edges square and slightly longer than normal. One can massage that skin edge at the nail back after baths to encourage nail growth outward. Once they have become ingrown, they do need to be cut out.
