Answer

Water is a perfect source of hydration even for physically active people. Gatorade is a great way to stay hydrated when physical endurance lasts longer than about an hour, replacing electrolytes lost through perspiration. Keep in mind that sports beverages contain sugar, which means they provide the body energy but also add extra calories.

Sports beverages also contain sodium (salt) so anyone who has been told to watch their sodium intake should limit how much Gatorade or other sports beverages they're consuming. My recommendation would be to drink water if exercising or playing sports less than or equal to one hour. A sports beverage may be appropriate for any exercise exceeding that.
