Ask GoodHealth.com I have seen a dermatologist before to have skin tags removed. Is that something I can do myself?

Answer

Skin tags, or acrochordons, are benign overgrowths of skin, often appearing in areas of the body that are exposed to a lot of rubbing, such as the neck of a person who wears a collared shirt, under the arms, or in the groin. Sometimes they will get so irritated and inflamed that they will fall off by themselves.

Acrochordons are composed of living skin, so when they are cut off they will bleed. Your doctor has ways to minimize this bleeding with chemicals or electricity. Also, your doctor can use sterile instruments to minimize the risk of infection. So it is probably worthwhile to have a dermatologist or other medical professional remove them for you.
