Uric acid is a substance that is normally in the bloodstream and forms from the breakdown of cells. Levels that are too high may lead to kidney stones. When these types of stones form they are hard to see on x-ray. If a stone goes unrecognized and blocks one or both kidneys, damage to the kidney(s) can occur.

It is most helpful to have your doctor check the pH and uric acid concentration of your urine to determine your risk for forming kidney stones.
