The science of clinical nutrition explores the relationship between food and good health. In a hospital setting, clinical dietitians are charged with helping to determine how best to treat patients who may be suffering from a broad range of serious and chronic conditions through eating. The concept of using food as medicine has its roots deep in human history and it's therapeutic role is constantly expanding and better recognized.

Clinical dietitians from the Seton Family of Hospitals apply their knowledge in both abstract and practical ways as they determine how various nutrients digested, absorbed and metabolized by the body will impact individual patients. What they learn can also be used by healthy people to improve overall well being, prevent illness and generally improve quality of life.

"Many of our clinical dietitians don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but they have a substantial understanding of the biochemical effect of food," says Seton Network Clinical Nutrition Coordinator/Guest Relations Manager Monica Milonovich, MS,RD,LD,CDE. "Most of them enjoy educating people and helping them make behavior modifications to improve their nutrition."

Education inspired our clinical dietitians to share some of their most useful food tips. We are presenting their ideas in the form of a True or False Quiz to help you test your own nutrition knowledge. Take the quiz and see how you do. Here's Part II.
