One sure sign of success for an exercise program is when customers flood the organizer's email inbox with requests for the program's return. Such is the case with the IGNITE Women's Health 5K, 12-week program conducted at Seton Medical Center Williamson this spring. The organizers believe lifelong fitness begins with a healthy passion that ignites your mind, challenges your body, and rejuvenates your spirit. Juggling the demands of work and family can sometimes push fitness goals to the back burner. The new Ignite Women's Health program over twelve weeks has helped many women take that first step to getting back into shape.
Established last year to coincide with the Seton Medial Center Williamson grand opening, the IGNITE program and 5K race has returned with an expanded program that now include boot camp sessions.
This six-week intensive outdoor training program led by the Chasco Family YMCA challenged many in fun and dynamic ways. The focus was to improve cardiovascular endurance, strength, agility, coordination and flexibility through fun drills, some good old-fashioned sports conditioning and lots of fun. In addition to exercise, the program participants had access to free seminars on a variety of womens health and fitness topics.

5K Running Tips
- Be sure to get to the race early enough to warm up. The
5K race is so short, it's worth the time working out all
the kinks before you get on the course.
- Line up properly in the chute. If you plan to walk the
race be sure to line up past the last runners in the chute.
Doing so may prevent you from receiving an inadvertent
elbow from another runner as they try to make their way
past you.
- If you've been eating regularly leading up to the race,
glycogen stores in your body are adequate to sustain you
throughout the race. There's no need to supplement with
bars or gels. Doing so may upset your stomach.
- Water stations can be confusing. Runners who slow down
to walk through the station, runners who try and grab a cup
or two on the run, people going right and left, liquids
being dropped or poured on the tops of heads and cups being
thrown to the ground. It all makes for a potential accident
to happen.
- If you plan to wear headphones, be sure to be aware of
your surroundings. Not being able to hear traffic or people
around you puts you at greater risk of being injured.
- Thank the volunteers. Without them there isn't a
race.
- Smile and enjoy the experience.
